Powerex Corp., the wholly owned energy marketing subsidiary of BC Hydro, has a full-time position for a Senior Cybersecurity Analyst to join our team. We are looking for an intellectually curious individual with a genuine passion for cybersecurity with several years of cybersecurity experience; a person who has confidence in their technical abilities and wants to work in a dynamic, fun environment.
Using leading edge cybersecurity systems, the Powerex Cybersecurity team is accountable for the protection of Powerex’s IT assets; the detection, response, and management of cybersecurity incidents; and the operation and support of a diverse range of cybersecurity systems across an agile and complex IT environment.
Duties:
As part of Powerex Cybersecurity team, the cybersecurity analyst will be expected to:

Act as a security subject matter expert on projects as well as advising and creating project deliverables as necessary

Participate in projects as required to define and/or deliver cybersecurity requirements, design, test plans, and implementation support

Assist with developing, documenting, and maintaining Powerex’s standards, and guidelines as required for cybersecurity projects or other
-
Assist in the transition of new cybersecurity systems and devices from project to operations
-
Assist with security risk assessments

Review and analyze existing security controls, event data, and other data sources looking for opportunities to improve security effectiveness and or efficiency

Develop and validate baseline security configurations for operating systems, applications, and networking and telecommunications equipment

Provide guidance on Powerex’s corporate cybersecurity policies to Powerex employees and contractors
Key qualifications:
-
Minimum 7 years of experience in a Cybersecurity role in an environment of the size and complexity of Powerex’s
-
Completed university bachelor’s degree of a technical discipline such as Engineering or Computer Science

Two or more industry certifications such as CISSP, CEH, CRISC, CISA, CISM, Security +, CCNA, CCNP, ITIL
-
Obsession with quick learning and attention to details

Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision

Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, communication, and presentation skills

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Strong understanding of enterprise-level networks, networking protocols, devices, and architecture with deep understanding of TCP/IP, OSI model, IDS, IPS, VPN and SSL Decryption

Technical knowledge of Microsoft security and identity technologies, such as Active Directory, Azure Active Directory, O365 ATP, Azure ATP, Azure AD Conditional Access

Hands on experience with:

Querying Active Directory

Creating basic SQL queries

Using PowerShell and command lines
-
Operating and administering mainstream SIEM products

Experience as System Administrator in managing Windows and Linux operating systems and windows-based network environments

Knowledge of email security, phishing techniques, and secure email gateways

Well versed in managing and engineering advanced network and cybersecurity systems/technologies such as Next-Gen firewalls, Endpoint security products, PAM and EPM products, vulnerability management products, and MFA solutions
Other requirements:
- Available to work regular office hours Monday to Friday
- Occasional on-site presence is expected at our head office in downtown Vancouver once the COVID-19 pandemic is over
- Must be able to legally work in Canada
