Key Areas of Focus
Leadership
- Act as a knowledgeable resource for the team by providing day-to-day guidance and actionable coaching
- Proactively evaluate areas of improvement and eliminate issues before they impact reporting
- Take accountability for your work with a focus on supporting your team and generating value
- Have the ability to analyze the business from a high-level perspective while selectively jumping in and rolling up your sleeves to investigate the details
- Ability to work through issues independently, but also not afraid to ask for advice from others
- Continuously evaluate, through a fresh perspective, the purpose and the method of performing existing tasks and processes
- Build relationships across our organization to ensure the finance function is providing value-added support to the organization
Responsibilities
- Support all accounting operations – including month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes, financial statement and note preparation, quarterly reviews, year-end audit
- Prepare and review complex financial information and schedules with a keen eye for detail
- Investigates issues on a timely basis by thinking through different approaches, leveraging critical thinking skills, using different systems, and deriving intelligence from large data sets
- Follow-through on recommended solutions proactively and on a timely basis
- Analyze and document new processes, policies and procedures for Finance while considering impact on other teams
- Understand and ensure accurate data flow into Finance systems
- Support in interpreting and assessing evolving and complex financial issues and structured transactions based on IFRS guidance with other team members if needed
- Lead improvement projects from scoping and requirements gathering, to implementation
Qualifications
Personal Attributes:
- CPA designation.
- 6+ years of related experience in accounting and finance, including 3+ post-designation and 1+ years in Industry preferable.
- High standards of performance, a strong desire to learn, and a self-starter
- Ability to communicate (verbal and written) complex ideas and thoughts in an organized manner to various levels of management and juniors
Skills:
- Proven experience working with large datasets, complex spreadsheets and/or data analysis tools
- Demonstrated experience with financial statement preparation/review, internal controls and processes, and audits
- Demonstrated experience with reading and interpretating accounting standards (IFRS or US GAAP)
- Experience with SAP, non-financial systems and energy trading would be an asset
