Role Overview

Powerex is a wholly owned subsidiary of BC Hydro. Since 1988, Powerex has been the exclusive marketer of BC Hydro’s clean surplus power and surplus capabilities. Over time, we have substantially grown our clean and renewable energy product offerings. We have also invested in significant electricity transmission and natural gas transportation and storage to maintain our leadership role in the movement of physical energy.

 In this role, you will join a team responsible for the ongoing evaluation and identification of potential market and regulatory policy issues relevant to Powerex in the areas where Powerex conducts business.  You will monitor current market issues and emerging trends along with proposed legislation particularly in the U.S.  You will proactively identify energy market and transmission access issues in the markets.  You will assist with the development of policy analysis, propose solutions and review materials to be submitted.  You will keep track of regulatory proceedings working to ensure the dissemination of relevant information and the timely assembly and filing of required materials.

About You

We are looking for candidates with business experience and a degree ideally in Commerce, Economics, Engineering or Law, with demonstrated well-developed project management and analytical skills.  A broad based knowledge of the electricity trade, natural gas and/or renewable/carbon industries along with the associated U.S. and Canadian regulatory/political environments is desired.  In addition, demonstrated experience with understanding of markets, energy regulation and restructuring will be an asset.  Candidates must be willing to travel and this position may involve working outside normal working hours/days.
