ABOUT THE ROLE
Powerex is seeking an individual with the skills, aptitude, and entrepreneurial drive to assist the Director, Gas Trading, in growing Powerex’s gas trading business in the years ahead.
As a key member of our high-performing team, you will report directly to the Director, Gas Trading. Your initial responsibilities will include creating and executing daily gas schedules, monitoring pipeline activity, and working closely with customers and pipeline operators to ensure the smooth and efficient flow of natural gas. Additionally, you will develop and maintain strong relationships with pipelines, utilities, producers, and customers. You will also participate in an on-call weekend rotation and provide backup coverage for the Director when required. As you gain experience, you will increasingly focus on identifying and executing new trade opportunities that balance commercial value and risk exposure, while contributing to strategy and helping Powerex to achieve its growth objectives.
WHO YOU ARE
We are looking for an entrepreneurial team player with strong leadership potential. You will be excited to take on a wide range of operational and strategic responsibilities, including daily gas scheduling and optimization, developing and executing physical and financial hedging strategies, and helping grow the gas business by establishing new pipeline and storage positions, developing new relationships and exploring new markets.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate will have a University Degree in Commerce (Finance, Accounting), Economics, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related highly analytical field. Other desired qualifications/experience include:
- Minimum 3 years of electricity or gas trading experience
- Strong analytical aptitude, and ability to multi-task in a high-pressure environment
- Exceptional interpersonal and verbal communication skills
- Proven negotiation skills
- Ability to thrive within a team environment, with competition focused externally, not internally
- Self-aware, humble and intellectually curious
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, resilient, and determined
- Adaptable to rapidly changing conditions and priorities, with quick-thinking skills and an innate sense of urgency to achieve success
LOCATION
Powerex is in downtown Vancouver on major transit routes (near both Skytrain and Seabus).
COMPENSATION
Starting base salary is $150,000. There is also Performance Based Incentive Pay that can reach up to 150% of your base salary, depending on Company and Team success and your individual contribution. Powerex also offers a defined benefit pension plan, a comprehensive suite of health and welfare benefits, and generous time off.
