ABOUT THE ROLE:
As the successful candidate, you will play an important role in helping Powerex implement its short- and long-term strategic plans. You will lead Powerex’s Transmission Planning team, overseeing the investigation of transmission related matters while leveraging your understanding of both the planning and operational determinants of available transmission capacity. You will manage the ongoing identification and evaluation of potential transmission access issues relevant to Powerex’s business, with a particular focus on transmission capacity ratings and understanding outages.  You will have experience running power flow analysis programs, be involved with reviewing transmission market design proposals in the markets where Powerex actively trades and assist in developing Powerex’s response to those proposals in conjunction with other Powerex staff. In addition, you will have the capability to analyze transmission nomograms, including BPA’s nomograms. 

Above and beyond your technical qualifications, your ability to effectively share the outcome of your work and to collaborate with Powerex management and non-technical staff will be essential to your success. Collaboration beyond Powerex is also important. You will be expected to represent Powerex in industry forums relating to transmission issues and to consult regularly with counterparts from across the Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC). Travel to the US will be required. 

QUALFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE 

  • Extensive knowledge of power system analysis
  • Ability to decipher complex technical issues and then communicate them clearly and succinctly to management
  • An effective communicator and relationship builder who is comfortable navigating sensitive issues with discretion
  • Willing and able to work outside normal working hours/days as required 
  • A passion for coaching and mentoring individuals and teams

NICE TO HAVE:

  • PhD or MSc in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Experience in transmission planning and/or transmission operations planning, real-time operations
  • Experience in data analytics
  • Knowledge of Python
  • Familiarity with NERC and WECC standards and criteria


DURATION & LOCATION
This is a full-time permanent role. The role is in office. Powerex is in downtown Vancouver on major transit routes (near both Skytrain and Seabus).


COMPENSATION
Starting salary range for this role is 160K- 180K. Starting salary and position level will depend on the successful candidate’s experience and qualifications.
